It’s never been easier to find great local staff.
CUSTOMISED EMPLOYMENT is a personalised approach to helping people with NDIS plans find work that truly fits their strengths, interests, and support needs. Instead of forcing you into a standard job, customised employment tailors the job for you. It focuses on understanding what you're good at, what you enjoy, and what conditions help you succeed.
From there, tasks can be redesigned, new roles can be created, and workplaces can be supported to make meaningful, long-lasting adjustments. The goal is simple: real work, real inclusion, and real opportunities, shaped around the you, not the other way around.
How is this done?

What is a Customised Employment Practitioner?
A customised employment practitioner is someone who knows how to help people with disability find and keep work that actually fits them. Not just any job, but the right job.
This isn’t about forcing people into roles that were never designed for them. It’s about understanding a person’s strengths, interests, and support needs, then working with employers to shape roles that make sense in the real world. Tools like Discovery, job carving, and workplace negotiation help make that happen.
I don’t come at this from a textbook or policy angle. I come at it as an employer who has hired, trained, and supported people with disability in real automotive workplaces for years through Wheelnutz Garage and TyreNutz. I’ve seen firsthand what works, what doesn’t, and what happens when employment is done properly.
Being qualified matters because customised employment isn’t guesswork. It takes skill, experience, and a solid understanding of disability, employment supports, and the NDIS.

Is this funded through my NDIS plan?
Your NDIS plan can fund customised employment support when you have an employment goal in your plan.
This support can be funded through employment supports or SLES and can include one to one assistance to explore your strengths and interests, support to find or shape a job with an employer, and ongoing workplace support to help you succeed at work.
When funded correctly, customised employment focuses on long term outcomes, not short term placements, and supports you to work in a role that genuinely fits you..

What's the First step?
The first step is simply getting in touch with ITA. Once you contact us, Jade will call you back and make a time to have a relaxed chat.
This is just a conversation to understand where you’re at, what you’re hoping for, and whether customised employment is the right fit for you. When you’re ready, we begin Discovery.
Discovery is all about getting to know you as a person. Your strengths, interests, routines, support needs, and the environments where you do your best. There are no tests or formal assessments.
It’s a practical, hands on process that looks at your everyday life, the things you naturally enjoy and are good at, and the people who know you well.
This information becomes the foundation for creating or carving a job that genuinely suits you and sets you up for long term success at work.

Worried About Work Affecting Your Pension? You’re Not Alone.
It’s completely normal to feel unsure about working if you’re worried it might affect your pension. Many people we speak to share this concern, and it’s an important conversation to have.
The reality is that many people can be employed and still receive their income support, especially when work starts gradually and is planned properly.
Customised employment allows you to explore work at a pace that feels right, with support to understand how hours and earnings interact with your pension.
The focus is on informed choices, flexibility, and building confidence, not rushing or pressure.

But I already have a DES provider?
Many people we speak with are already connected to a DES provider, and that doesn’t mean customised employment isn’t an option.
We also understand that DES has recently transitioned to the new IEA model, and like any major system change, it will take time for everyone to adjust. During this transition, some people may feel unsure or find that supports aren’t yet working the way they need them to.
Customised employment can be explored alongside existing supports, particularly if you’re looking for a more personalised approach that focuses on finding or creating a role that genuinely fits you, rather than placing you into available vacancies.
Having an IEA provider doesn’t stop you from having a conversation, asking questions, or exploring different ways to reach your employment goals.
